Do You Need a Waterproof Digital Camera?

Cameras in general are made to take pictures on beautiful days. People who love the outdoors know that the weather does not always allow us to take our regular digital cameras along. Waterproof digital cameras on the other hand are designed to take the elements.

Designing a camera to take the elements has opened our world to underwater shots. We can now capture those awesome moments and take our memories home with us. These cameras allow the water adventurer to take shots on whitewater rapids and remember the exhilaration of the moment.

Hikers can just put the camera in their pockets and click away. These cameras can take a four foot drop and still click away. Allowing us to take snap shots from some of the less than steady foot stands we find ourselves in.

Mountain bikers can now pull these little cameras out even when they are on the move and click away. Taking the action home with them. Enjoying their bike ride long after their journey.

Skiers and snow boarders can now take snap shots of their favorite runs. Taking them back to the wind in their face and the cool crisp air. The happiness they felt at defeating the mountain when the snow was deep and the air was clean.

When looking to purchase your next digital camera you should consider a waterproof digital camera. These cameras are designed to take the abuse you and mother nature dish out. Most have metal casings instead of the plastic ones you will get with a regular point and shoot. O rings to seal their working components to protect them from dust, rain and snow.

These cameras are designed to take the elements. They will still work in below freezing temperatures, keep the dust and water out of their working components and survive an impact.

The trade is in picture quality most of them are just 720p. Having the ability to take it with you in any condition for me far out weights a little picture quality. Under water pictures are limited to about ten meters. There are underwater covers I would recommend buying for with their added protection you will have no mishaps with your camera. The floating strap is also a great added safety measure just in case you drop the camera while underwater or in the rapids.

The cameras that are designed with the wheel to move from mode to mode aren’t the best choice for action or underwater shots. Who wants to look down at their camera before capturing that perfect fish?

If you love the outdoors and taking pictures of nature in any weather situation a waterproof digital camera is the camera for you.
